Modern Dentistry Has Come A Long Way

Another blessing we are grateful for is how far modern dentistry has evolved. With new found science and research over the past few decades, we are now able to make our patients more comfortable and relaxed during emergency dental procedures.
Where Dentistry Started
The earliest history of treating tooth related problems stems back all the way to 7000 BC in the Indus Valley Civilization. The first treatment tool used on teeth were bow drills, which were ancient primitive tools also used for woodworking. Later on in 5000 BC all the way to the 1700’s ancient doctors blamed tooth worms for the cause of many dental issues, they believed little worms were creating tiny holes inside of teeth and hiding inside of them. In 1840, the first dental college was opened and finally in 1873, the colgate mass-produced the first toothpaste in a jar. Shockingly, most Americans did not regularly brush their teeth until after World War II.

Anesthesia
Unfortunately emergency dental situations arise. Fortunately, modern anesthesia technology now makes it possible to perform even complex surgeries in the dental office with little or no discomfort to patients. There a few different types of anesthesia, in cases involving dental surgery, anesthesia is used to relax you and is either given to your orally, by inhalation, by a shot or through I.V. sedation. Anesthesia can either be given to you for “conscious sedation” or “twilight sleep” for relaxation. The anesthesia patients receive will all depend on the dental procedure.
Air-Abrasion
Air-abrasion allows precise removal of decayed teeth. This technology advanced system uses blasts of pellets, air and aluminum oxide to treat tooth problems such as cavities.
Composite Resin
Composite Resins are used in many restoration procedures, such as veneers and bonding. These resins are better refined to replicate tooth colors and look more natural than a gold replacement. Additionally, they are easier to apply, more durable, easier to apply, mold and shape.
